Location: #15 on map, 1700 Rosemount Rd., RR #1 Waubaushene, L0K 2C0 (705) 538-0022 pvking@csolve.net Pamela King Weaver, dyer, basketmaker The journey began in the early 1980's. I took a beginning weaving course and felt like I had come home. I bought my first loom and started to learn as much I could about this wonderful hobby. Thirty years later (and more looms) I am still learning. I love colour and experimenting with the interaction of colour and weave structure. I hand paint my warps and dye the weft to coordinate before I weave my tencel scarves. It is a long process but worth the effort. Look at the hand painted tencel scarf shown here. This is the end result of the process I just described. Dyeing and basketmaking were natural extensions of weaving. Louise Gervais and I started to experiment with dye techniques a while ago. We spend hours pushing the dye boundaries. We love 'what if....' situations and are always looking for colours that sing. Dyeing is like peeling back layers, each one revealing something new and wonderful. We hand paint silk or rayon chenille scarves, using the techniques we have discovered. Each scarf is an individual explosion of colour. My hand dyed/painted cotton purses are whimsical and fun, as are the dog bandanas. One thing builds on another and the baskets I create are make are extension of our dye experiments and my weaving. I combine unusual roots, grapevine, cedar, horsehair and traditional basket materials to make sculptured baskets. No two are ever alike. Please visit Louise, our friend Betsy Waterson, who creates rich, intricately beaded jewelry and myself on the 10th anniversary studio tour. We are looking forward to meeting you. |
