She now resides near Washago on the Black River. Having graduated with honours from Ontario College of Art and Design in 1999, she spent a further year with OCAD in Florence, Italy, earning an Advanced Visual Studies certificate. She has done many plein-air oil and watercolour paintings in the past ten years. This has provided the visual language for these new studio landscape-based abstract works. She uses acrylic and various other media now that were not practical before while painting outdoors; and tends tend to paint much larger. Negative space has become important, as well as pure colour. The visual language in these paintings is strongly influenced by the pine forests surrounding the artist's home. Liz, now co-owns and operates Peter Street Fine Arts, a studio/gallery at 23 Peter St. S. in Orillia. She teaches informal workshops at this studio and life drawing at Orillia Museum of Art and History. |
